Saint-Etienne-de-Gourgas is a small village in the Hérault region near Lodève, best known for the “Cirque du Bout du Monde”.
Carved out of the foothills of the Causse du Larzac plateau, the cirque constitutes a natural geographical boundary.
The village is nestled at the foot of the cirque. The commune has two types of landscapes: to the north, the Larzac plateau and, to the south, the set of valleys carved by the three rivers of the Brêze, Subrebel and Aubaigues.
Between these two zones, the edge of the causse forms a natural wall covered by the state forest of Notre-Dame de Parlatges.
Saint-Etienne-de-Gourgas is the starting point for many pleasant hikes.
The commune also has a rich heritage, since there are no less than 15 classified, registered or simply studied historical sites for their remarkable character.
