Le Gua is the most eastern commune of the Marennes basin. It has the characteristics of the meeting of salt and fresh water, with a diversity of landscapes and typical human activities.

Presentation:

The territory of Le Gua is ideally located at the crossroads of two important axes: La Rochelle-Royan and Oléron-Saintes. This situation, linked to the distance from the large urban centers, has allowed the commune to maintain a good level of commercial activity within its town and its outskirts with specialized shops. The commune is thus today part of the economic poles of the surroundings. The municipality has the originality of having several life centers. The villages of Châlons, Souhe, Saint Martin du Gua, Monsanson and Dercie gather almost half of the inhabitants. As elsewhere, the villages have become mostly residential. However, not so long ago, you could find everything you need. Before the war, Saint Martin, for example, had three cafés, a mechanic, a bakery, two grocery stores, and it was still possible to get a haircut or buy hardware.
