The current territory of Ghisonaccia, traditional place of transhumance of the shepherds of the pieve of Castellu, was erected as a commune in 1845. This commune of the department of Haute-Corse is part of the canton of Ghisoni, of which it is the most important community, both in terms of population and trade. The neighboring communes are Prunelli di Fiumorbu, Poggio and Lugo di Nazza, Ghisoni and Pietroso.
The patronal feast of the village is Saint Michael’s Day, which takes place on September 29 and coincides with an old tradition of the pastoralist world.
Its population is close to 3,800 inhabitants (10th in Corsica), who live mainly in the agglomeration of Ghisonaccia-ville, but also in Ghisonaccia-Gare and Saint-Antoine which are the two big hamlets located in the west.
It should be noted that this population exceeds 10,000 residents in the summer period, with the activity of tourist structures located on the coastline.
On the maritime facade of the municipality, which is made up of several kilometers of fine sandy beach, there is also the Pinia forest, an important pine forest bordered to the north by the Urbinu pond, where aquacultural activities are practiced.
With a surface area of nearly 7000 hectares, agriculture still plays an important role, with the cultivation of vines, livestock, cheese production and various fruit crops.
Since January 1st, 2009, Ghisonaccia has integrated the community of communes of Fiumorbu-Castellu of which it has become the administrative seat.
We are located 85 kilometers from Bastia, the economic capital of the north, and 48 kilometers from Purtivechju, the third largest town in Corsica.
The telephone number of the town hall is 04.95.56.15.10 (Fax 04.95.56.06.47).
The current mayor, who also holds the mandate of General Councillor of the canton of Ghisoni, is Mr. Francis Giudici, elected to this position since March 2008.
