Bayeux, “city in the countryside” capital of the D-Day landing beaches, located in the heart of a renowned agricultural area with a protected natural environment, is a unique Norman city with an exceptionally preserved heritage. Bayeux is renowned throughout the world for its famous Tapestry, a masterpiece of 11th century Romanesque art. This astonishing woolen embroidery on linen canvas tells the extraordinary story of William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy, and his accession to the throne of England in 1066.
