La Bouilladisse is one of the 119 communes of the Bouches du Rhône department of the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur region. Its territory extends over 1240 hectares of which more than 50% are protected areas.
It enjoys a dry and temperate climate. Its position in the middle of the hills and pine forests provides it with clean air and quality of life. The discoveries made on its ground attest that, since the Stone Age, man has lived there (vestiges found in the barrel cave). Its territory was inhabited during the Roman occupation (remains have been found in almost all the districts).
Its geographical position is central: 20 km from Aix en Provence, 25 km from Marseille, 15 km from Aubagne and 25 km from Cassis. The Sainte Victoire and the Sainte Baume are only about 30 minutes away. The average altitude of the houses is about 250m and its highest point is 714m: the Pic de Regagnas.
The Provencal poet Félix Lescure was born in La Bouilladisse on June 10, 1867. Its rocky hills sculpted by the assaults of the mistral and the sun have made La Bouilladisse a daughter of Provence. The calm of its typical hamlets, the palette of its colors, the variety of its landscapes embody the beauties of Provence as Marcel Pagnol liked to write.
La Bouilladisse, a commune for peace, member of the AFCDRP, the French branch of “Mayor for Peace”, with 5,704 inhabitants (2008 census – updated on 01/01/10) was established as a commune on July 6, 1880. Its territory depended then on the commune of Auriol. It won its autonomy after 50 years of struggle, the first request for separation having been formulated in 1831. The village is twinned with the commune of Brézoi in Romania.
