Located 21 km from Nice and at an altitude of 450 meters, the village has its origin in a refuge house established at the foot of the Col de Braus where travelers used to stop.
It became a hamlet and depended on the neighboring municipality until the House of Savoy made it an independent municipality to cut short the dissensions between the different baronies. The population then lived mainly from agriculture. The climate, which was very mild in winter and cool in summer, as well as the abundance of water, allowed for the production of wine, oil, cereals and vegetables of all kinds.
